About the zone:
In the parish of Estrela there is a garden and a basilica that will impress you. The basilica (built in the 18th century), located in Largo da Estrela, combines baroque and neoclassical styles. The dome and facade (with twin towers and statues of saints and other figures) is one of Lisbon's postcards. It is open every day until eight o'clock.
Right in front of the basilica: Jardim da Estrela (or Jardim Guerra Junqueiro). Banana trees, jacarandas and plane trees, kingfish, peacocks and swans are there. And a musical silence in one of the most elegant gardens in the capital. Like the English romantic gardens, Jardim da Estrela is home to the oldest wrought iron music kiosk in Lisbon. It's a great place to read a book, walk, run or have a drink.
There are many modes of transport; there are buses (9, 20, 22 and 38) and trams (25 and the famous 28).
Estrela is flooded by a bourgeois atmosphere that reveals itself in its streets with vine-covered houses, green squares and galleries.
This high-quality neighborhood receives only a small number of visitors, despite its strengths, such as the neoclassical Basilica da Estrela.
The National Museum of Ancient Art is one of the most important museums in the Portuguese capital, both due to its size and the richness of its collections.
