Mértola and the Guadiana
Mértola is a village in the southeast of Portugal, near the Spanish border. It has a strategic location on a hill, spreading on a natural amphitheatre between the right hand side bank of Guadiana River and the left hand side of Oeiras creek, on the last navigable portion of Guadiana River. The seven millennia long Mértola’s history is closely linked with this navigable waterway and to the roads that connect it to the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula

This estate was acquired about 50 years ago. In 2002 a new cycle begun in its life with a fresh start on the farming business, according to geobiology and environmental principles, aiming to prevent and treat disease.

The estate is situated some 500 m from Mértola village the seat of the concelho, high on such a privileged belvedere that it commands a view of about 30 to 40 km around to territories of the surrounding concelhos of Almodôvar, Alcoutim and even Spain. The Guadiana River is only 700 m away.

Purity, Sustainability and Harmony
In Monte de Santo António nothing is a product of chance. Its privileged geographical location and the in-depth study of the characteristics of the location, with a constant eye for detail, made possible the creation and development of the place, according to
criteria like harmony, purity and sustainability that are visible in every corner in countless aspects.

Farming
Following an in-depth geobiological and water dowsing study, in order to find water, the recuperation of the farming activities was planned, having in mind the organic production of tea, a great variety of dried and fresh fruits, wine of the Trincadeira, Aragonês, Sirah, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, D. Maria and Moscatel varieties, as well as organic liqueurs, eggs, chikens, honey, olive oil and mineral water.

Water
With a number of water wells, a large dam and two lakes, the estate is self-sufficient in water, both for irrigation and for human consumption.

With an area of 1800 square meters plus 550 square meters of sheds, verandas and pathways. The house is composed

• A fully equipped large cuisine, with a shed for outdoor eating plus laundry and pantry.
