Reguengos de Monsaraz [1] is, since 2004, a Portuguese city, in the District of Évora, in the region of Alentejo and in the sub-region of Central Alentejo, with 7,261 inhabitants (2012).
It is the seat of a municipality with 464.00 km² in area and 10 828 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Alandroal, to the east by Mourão, to the southeast by Moura, to the southwest by Portel, to the west by Évora and to the northwest by Redondo.
It became the county seat for the first time in 1838 (replacing the previous county seat in the village of Monsaraz) and definitely in 1851. It was elevated to the administrative category of a village in 1840 and elevated to a city on December 9, 2004.
Reguengos de Monsaraz, is one of the four municipalities that make up the suburban area of ​​Évora, which are Arraiolos, Montemor-o-Novo, Reguengos de Monsaraz and Viana do Alentejo.
The city is located just 25 minutes from Évora and has buses from the "Rodoviária do Alentejo" network, which make the Reguengos-Évora and Évora-Reguengos route with some frequency.
Reguengos de Monsaraz is located 90 minutes from Lisbon. There are several buses from the "Rede Expressos" that make the Évora-Lisbon route every 60 minutes, as well as the intercity trains that make the Évora-Oriente route. The 90 minutes previously spoken will be reduced to about 70 minutes by car, due to the extension of the A6 to the São Manços (Évora) branch, which will facilitate access to Greater Lisbon; or for 25 minutes by TGV, with the construction of the station being foreseen, upon approval of the project by the state entities, next to one of the A6 nodes between Reguengos de Monsaraz and the Montemor-o-Novo section.
