History of Algés

Algés dates back to the Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula, it being possible that its toponym has the same origin (al-geis, "the chalk") and demonstrating the existence of deposits where chalk was extracted during the Muslim occupation of the Iberian Peninsula and in previous periods. The historic area of ​​Algés will have been established for security reasons in the highest part of the village, currently called Algés de Cima.
